Real-life stories of support

Everyone’s journey with mental health and wellbeing is different. At Partners in Wellbeing, we meet people where they are, helping them take steps toward feeling better and building a life that works for them.

Rebuilding after family violence

“I feel like a brand new person.”

After waiting two years for family violence counselling, a woman came back to Partners in Wellbeing to continue her recovery. She wanted support to feel more confident and strengthen her relationship with her young daughter.

Through six months of wellbeing coaching, she learned simple ways to manage her emotions, make decisions that matched her values and build confidence. She also discovered her own strengths and capacity to grow.

Over time she reached important milestones – going back to study, publishing a book and making positive choices about her legal matters. The support helped her move past her experiences and reconnect with herself, giving her and her daughter a stronger foundation for wellbeing.

Support for a father overseas

“Partners in Wellbeing has been the only service that provided me with support and information to better understand mental health services in Australia.”

A father living in China contacted us, worried about his adult daughter studying in Melbourne. He described her condition as “a sickness on the mind” and didn’t know how to help from far away.

We arranged a Mandarin interpreter and explained how mental health support works in Australia. We also shared other options for support like the university’s Student Welfare Department and local welfare checks.

Even though his daughter chose not to engage, the father felt reassured and more confident in knowing how to get help. This example shows how even one conversation can make a real difference.

Finding stability after setbacks

A young man referred by a court support program came to Partners in Wellbeing. He had experienced trauma, addiction, incarceration and was facing challenges of starting a new life in Australia.

While waiting to join an Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) program, he accessed mental health support. Together we worked on setting boundaries, managing stress and pursuing goals like stable housing, employment and healthier relationships.

Regular support helped him feel more stable and confident. He completed the court support program and transitioned to ongoing care with Head to Health (now called Medicare Mental Health), giving him a strong foundation to keep building his life.
